Can you tell us about the LoAF CD packaging series; how did you originate this design?

What is the future of CD and vinyl packaging, as everything goes digital?

Can you give some advice to designers who want to get into the creative packaging industry?

When we were asked to package a series of EPs for LoAF, a new sub-label of Lo Recording, we aimed to look for a completely fresh approach. Firstly we decided to avoid any traditional music packaging vehicles like the jewel case and instead searched for more interesting ways that a new label could make its mark.
–
The idea we arrived at was to ask a visual artist to produce a limited edition print or poster that would accompany each release, in effect marrying the artist’s work with the musician’s work. To tie them all together we created a generic format where the CD and art print are enclosed in a sealed plastic document envelope which is attached to a 12" grey board. After being assembled it is silkscreen overprinted with bold typography that gives the visual artist the same billing as the musician.
