Merlin Carpenter
The Opening
–
Sternberg Press
–
2011
–
Art direction, custom typography
and design for London-based artist
Merlin Carpenter’s paperback book
documenting his series of exhibitions
entitled The Opening
–
Carpenter produced all of the paintings
for The Opening during the opening
events staged at galleries in New York,
Los Angeles, Berlin, Zurich, London
and Brussels between 2007 and 2009
–
The front section of the book combines
essays by Caroline Busta with a
showcase of each event using grids of
reportage photography presented as
though cropped from a larger document.
The back section catalogues each of
the resulting paintings alongside an
email exchange between George Baker,
Merlin Carpenter and his publisher
